How a real servant ACTS...

by Nick Cleveland
This morning in HSM I challenged us to look hard at the words of Christ in Mark 10 where He defined greatness as having a servant's heart. We discovered together from God's Word that a real servant ACTS humbly, immediately, & spontaneously. So together we venture into this week...March 15-21 committed to 5 ACTS of kindness from a heart motivated to make Jesus famous! We'll leave this post up this week for you to share what you did and how you saw it impact others! GO & SERVE!

"...whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." - Jesus Christ

Yesterday at HSM had a tremendous effect on my son. He's always willingly done his chores around the house, but since yesterday, he's taken it a step further--gone beyond the chore and made it a service for his family. Praise the LORD

Well today so far I've had the chance to impact 2 people through random ACTs! Aidan and I did some grocery shopping and purposed to help a couple with their groceries and returning their cart. they were thankful and I think it lifted their spirits.

Then this afternoon I was able to help my neighbor briefly changing a light bulb that required standing on a ladder. He thanked me and offered to pay me (for changing a light bulb, seriously)...I didn't take the money and told Him to be blessed by God's provision for him today!

On Sunday afternoon, I decided that I needed to say hello to my neighbors. They're a sweet old couple that are getting on in years. They weren't home, so instead I left them a note saying that I just wanted to drop by and say hello and that I missed them.

Then, today - I got a knock on my door. It was my neighbors' daughter. She said that she had been staying with her parents for the last few months and watching them. When I tried visiting them yesterday, they were actually at the hospital for a personal emergency. The daughter said that the note meant a lot when they returned from the hospital after the day they had.

What a cool reminder that you can serve someone just by encouraging them...

My mom has been somewhat down and out w/ my brother leaving...so I bought her some tulips Sunday afternoon. I left them up in her room w/ a note of encouragement. She liked them quite a bit, and was thankful :)

My dad has a good friend in the Bahamas. To have a cell phone out there is very expensive. He recently was able to get an internet connection to his home. With that he got a skype account so he could communicate with friends and family for free. My dad isn't exactly computer fluent, so I set him up with his own skype account so he would be able to keep in touch with his friend more often.

I helped around the house by doing things that i normally just watch others do, like unloading the dishwasher, cleaning the dishes, etc. I tried to do them as secretively as possible, but dishes are pretty loud so it didn't work so well! lol
